Cherry Smoothie

Costco is a challenging place. I'm not just talking about the stress of shopping with a toddler! You discover something wonderful there, find some great recipes for that something wonderful, tell all your friends about it, but by the next time you shop, that something wonderful has vanished. So sad.

Such is the case with frozen cherries. I haven't seen them in any other grocery stores. About 2 years ago, Costco carried them and we loved them in smoothies. Then, poof, gone, not to be seen again until last month. I have since bought several bags, cramming them into my overstuffed freezer. If you are so lucky to get them, this is the recipe we enjoy.

I think almond flavour brings out the best in cherries, but you could use vanilla if almond isn't your favourite.

2 cups frozen, pitted cherries
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup yogurt
2-4 tablespoons almond syrup (I used sugar-free Amaretto syrup here)

Sometimes I add a banana, or use vanilla syrup or just a bit of sugar.

Blend in your blender until it's the consistency you like. Or until the toddler gets mad about the noise the blender makes!

When we have leftover smoothies, I freeze them in a plastic freezer jam jar to pop into school lunches. They thaw out enough by recess to eat with a spoon for snack time.
